The First Morel

When I first met Ken I thought it was a deal breaker that he didn't like mushrooms. In the last couple of years, in early spring we've gone hunting for morels in an undisclosed wooded location near our house and Ken's opinion on mushrooms has thankfully changed after experiencing these tasty little forest treasures. Two weeks ago we hiked for two hours in mosquito infested woods and came out with this sad little find for our efforts.

What's even more sad is once we fried it up in butter, it shrunk to about a third of its size. We carefully cut it in half and ate it as an appetizer.

The following weekend we had a little bit more luck and were able to make more of a meal out of the fruits of our labor.
